Learning Update!
Here are some examples of the latest learning taking place in Clermiston.
P1 enjoyed making Diwa lamps to celebrate Diwali. They have also been learning about 2D shapes and going on shape hunts around the classroom. They spent time in the wildlife garden as well, finding different objects to investigate and count.
P2 have been working hard on their sounds in literacy, and have enjoyed using songs, drawings and being a ‘sound spotter’ to help them. They are very excited to be rehearsing for the upcoming Winter Show!
Our P3 classes were inspired by Halloween and used their ideas to write some acrostic poems. They have also been working on telling them time using quarter past and quarter to.
The P4s celebrated Black History Month in October by learning about inspirational black people from the past and present day. They also learned about traditional African culture and made their own African tribal masks.
P5 have been enjoying taking their learning outdoors. They had great fun up Corstorphine Hill, toasting marshmallows and making giant leaf piles.
P6 worked in the Wildlife Garden to create some transient art, focusing on colour and shape and only using items they found on the ground.
P7s have been learning about Scottish landscapes. Inspired by Andy Puetherer, they used the element of colour to create their own Scottish landscapes! They have also been enjoying their novel study of Holes by Louis Sachar. They have made predictions, completed character studies and learned lots of new vocabulary, as well as creating some Holes-inspired artwork with a focus on perspective.
With Miss Cree, classes have been learning about how to cope with life’s challenges. They have been making ‘cope-cakes’ to show a range of coping strategies to deal with difficult emotions. For example, having a bath, taking deep breaths, exercise, art or listening to music.
With the Winter term well underway, we are looking forward to lots of learning opportunities and festive fun to come! Remember to keep an eye on your child’s class Team for regular updates.
